What's happening?

Chancellor Park in University Heights is set for a makeover. The parcel of land, located between Chancellor Boulevard and Maurice Drive, is just over 17,000 square metres in size. The City of Prince George wants to know what you would like to see in this park space - it's a blank canvas ready for your great ideas! Your feedback and ideas will help create the basis for a capital project request.

What's your vision for the space?

To get you thinking about the park features that are most important to you, the following list provides some ideas and general cost estimates:

  • Site preparation and site clearing (e.g., clearing trees and grading) costs approximately $100,000.
  • A basic playground that includes climbing structures and a slide costs approximately $200,000.
  • A dog park costs approximately $75,000.
  • A hard surface court (which can be used as an outdoor ice rink) including new paving, line painting, and fitments (basketball nets, tennis, or pickleball nets) and fencing costs approximately $200,000.
  • The cost to build a trail varies. For example, a gravel perimeter trail at Chancellor Park (565 metres) would cost approximately $339,000 (based on $600/linear meter for a 1.8 metre wide gravel trail).
  • A bike park and pump tracks could cost between $10,000 and $50,000 for an area between 0.25 and 2 acres in size.
  • Bear-proof garbage containers cost $2,500 to install.
  • A picnic table costs $3,500 to install and benches are $2,700.

You can submit your feedback and ideas now until July 31, 2024. The City's parks division will then take your ideas and prepare capital project funding requests for Council's consideration during 2025 budget deliberations in January.

If Council approves the request, detailed design and site regulatory approvals will take place in the first half of 2025 with a goal to begin construction in summer 2025.
