Heritage is more than historic buildings. It lives in the places we gather, the people who shape our community, and the stories we carry with us. The Prince George Heritage Commission is inviting you to share what makes Prince George feel like Prince George, from meaningful locations and local traditions to personal experiences and community moments. Your input will help broaden and modernize how we define heritage, and will directly inform updates to the Heritage Inventory, future programs, and the priorities that guide how we celebrate and preserve our city’s story.
We are working to broaden how heritage is understood in Prince George. Heritage is not only historic buildings or official landmarks. It also includes the places people gather, the stories they share, and the experiences that shape everyday life in our city.
By asking the community, we can capture a wider range of perspectives, including voices and experiences that may not be reflected in traditional heritage records.
What we hear will help guide updates to the Heritage Inventory, inform future projects, and shape how the City recognizes and celebrates what matters to residents.
A Heritage Inventory is a list of places, features, and stories that are considered important to a community’s history and identity.
In Prince George, the Heritage Inventory has traditionally focused on buildings and physical sites. Through this project, we are looking to expand it to better reflect the full range of what people value, including cultural, social, and lived experiences.
Being included in the Heritage Inventory does not place restrictions on a property. It is a way to recognize and document what is meaningful to the community.
Submitting to this project does not automatically include a contribution in the Heritage Inventory; all submissions will be reviewed and may help inform future additions.
